Learn how a distributed record reaches agreement and why different designs make different trade-offs.

A plain-language introduction to blockchain records, digital assets, custody and the risks that surround them.
A blockchain is a shared record maintained according to a set of network rules. Digital assets can represent different rights or functions; the word “crypto” does not describe one uniform product. Understanding the specific network, asset and use case matters more than the category label.
Transactions may be public while ownership is controlled through private keys. Losing access to those keys, sending to a wrong address or relying on an unsuitable intermediary can have serious consequences. Market price risk sits alongside these operational risks.
This guide is for general education. It does not recommend a token, exchange, allocation or trading strategy. Digital assets can be highly volatile and involve possible loss of principal.
